We had quite a fun time at The Royal George on Sunday, starting with Sobin Sabu Thankachan aka Sobin ST. Sobin’s closest friends are still waiting for him to come out of the closet. Given he’s hetero, they’ll have a long wait. Next up was Dylan Almeida, who has found the most effective way to lose all your friends – going vegan. We then had Richard Taylor who, despite the rumours, is not an animal lover – in that way, ahem – unlike apparently most of the audience #joke Lou Sirr (Pete Middlehurst) then shared his most embarrassing moment: making out with his GF’s twin – as he didn’t quite get clued in from the husky voice. Nina S (Nina ) said she was scandalised by a discovery she made in her 20s – turns out she’s Russian – followed by Alec Watson, not to be confused with the Alex people of the world, as Alex is – we now know – the plural of Alec. Closing the first half was the fabulous Stanislav Gunko. Stan has a new slogan for TFL if you’re Russian-inclined, ending, of course, with Soviet. He also wants to put the word out to any of his compatriots who record mindfulness sleep podcasts – maybe not try and lull people to sleep while sounding like the KGB.
Our second half kicked off with Will Usherwood-Bliss (pictured). What is Will looking agog at? Grape tosses. Yup. You for sure had to be there. Akshar Patel bemoaned his home audience for his sets – his uncle – who sadly seemed to have left his sense of humor on the train – before Jason June gave the best reason ever for a pingback on a spam email: the spammer had kicked the bucket. We then had Kyriakos Vlachos who isn’t here to take anyone’s job. No, he’s just here for the – ahem – benefits. Closing the show was the hilarious Aarian Mehrabani, who praised Will’s set for what he could appreciate from a silent clown – the smell of grapes. For his one-man show, Aarian had a BSL interpreter, who informed Aarian that the more ‘graphic’ bits of his set would provide additional entertainment for all, as it appears some sexual terms are all too obvious, whether spoken or signed.
So that was our night! Join us next Sunday at the Royal George for more comedic mayhem.
